TITUSVILLE, FL — The White House response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade has caused unnecessary concern among some pro-life Americans, and frustration among some abortion supporters that Biden isn’t doing enough.
But there’s not much he can do, according to Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life.
“What the Supreme Court did on June 24 was to put regulation of abortion back into the political process. The president can’t take it out of that process,” Father Pavone said. “He cannot erase any law that gets enacted, nor can he reverse a Supreme Court decision.”
On Friday, Biden signed an executive order – Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Services – and pledged to do everything in his power to ensure women across the country can continue to abort their children.
“But the truth is that ‘everything in his power’ isn’t much,” Father Pavone said. “He can try to persuade people that making abortion access the law of the land is a good idea, and he can have agencies remind people of their legal rights, but every executive action, in every agency, is bound by the limits of existing law. Pro-life America should continue to rejoice in the reversal of Roe and build on it with confidence.”
