ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Jan. 19, 2026 /Christian Newswire/ — The Life & Hope Network announced today that oral arguments in its appeal seeking to unseal long-sealed guardianship records in the Terri Schiavo case are currently scheduled for January 28, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. before Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal in St. Petersburg.
Nearly twenty years after Terri Schiavo’s death, critical portions of her guardianship records remain hidden from public view. These records were sealed at Michael Schiavo’s request shortly after Terri’s passing, a move that raised immediate concerns for Terri’s family.
In March 2024, the family and the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network filed motions to intervene and unseal the records, arguing that the public has a constitutional right to access them. Despite a hearing in October 2024, the trial court ruled that the records should remain sealed on procedural grounds.
“These documents may contain information that could alter the historical understanding of Terri’s case,” said Bobby Schindler, brother of Terri Schiavo. “There is no valid justification for continued secrecy after two decades.”
The Life & Hope Network maintains that both the Florida Constitution and the First Amendment protect the public’s right to inspect court records, especially in a case that sparked international debate on disability rights, due process, and end-of-life care.
“This appeal is about transparency, constitutional rights, and the pursuit of truth,” Schindler stated. “We will continue this fight for justice and accountability.”
