He read them both over and over and told me I should read them too.” Comments like these inspired Holy Heroes to release a second edition of the Dear God book series for children with discussion questions now at the end of each
chapter. Dear God, I Don’t Get It and Dear God, You Can’t Be Serious! uses humor and inspiration in the true-to-life challenges of Aaron and Luke Ajax.
Themes include:
● Making sense of prayer when you don’t get what you asked for.
● Pushing for your own way can interfere with something better.
● Being kind isn’t always easy.
● Does being a hero make you a saint?
Best-selling author, Patti Maguire Armstrong who writes for the National Catholic Register and is a TV talk show host with BEK News’ “Ladies of Another View,” said that writing them was a lot of fun. “The books are fiction, but the characters are based on our three oldest children and inspired by true events. The enthusiastic feedback is what originally inspired the second book and now I’m working on a third that will continue the adventures.”
“I highly recommend these books,” said Kay Power, a 4th-grade teacher who used them for 5 years until her retirement at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit school in Bismarck, ND. The books were integrated into her reading and religion classes. “It gives students the chance to look at lived Catholic teachings on their level which kept them very involved. I shared the books with another teacher in a different school and she and her students also raved about them.”
