WASHINGTON, D.C. – Pro-life activists and lawmakers responsible for the life-saving laws in Texas and Mississippi will be honored at the 2022 National Prayer Service on Friday, January 21st at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.
The interdenominational prayer service – held annually on the morning of the March for Life – will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Honorees will include John Seago of Texas Right to Life and Texas Senator Bryan Hughes, who introduced the Texas Heartbeat bill in the Senate. Ohio resident Janet Porter, who is credited with pioneering the heartbeat movement, will also receive the award.
Also honored will be Mississippi Rep. Becky Currie, who authored the “Gestational Age Act” which is the law now being reviewed by the Supreme Court in the Dobbs case, and Senators Angela Hill and Joey Fillingane, who shepherded the legislation through the Mississippi Senate.
“These brave men and women played a key role in these two pivotal pro-life laws,” said Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, “but they would be the first to say they are not the only ones. It is our intention, in giving these awards, to also honor all the pro-life legislators in Texas and Mississippi who voted for these bills, and all the other pro-life public officials and pro-life leaders and activists who made them possible. We want to give the national pro-life movement a chance to express its gratitude to them, and we hope many people from Mississippi and Texas will come in order to receive the gratitude of pro-life people from across the country!”
The service, hosted by the National Pro-Life Religious Council, Priests for Life, and Faith & Liberty DC, is free, tickets are not required and large groups can be easily accommodated in the 3,700-seat historic Constitution Hall.
Co-sponsoring organizations include the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates and Life Issues Institute. There is still time for groups to sign up as co-sponsors.
“With representatives from numerous Christian denominations and pro-life groups, this will be the premier prayer event marking the tragic commemoration of Roe vs. Wade,” Fr. Frank said, who also serves as President of the National Pro-Life Religious Council. “We will gather in repentance and grief, but also in hope-filled, joyful determination and unity to bring an end to abortion once and for all!”
