Feast of the Annunciation celebrates Mary’s YES to life

PRIESTS FOR LIFE — “The message of the Feast of the Annunciation is more important this year than ever before,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life.

The March 25 feast day celebrates the moment that Mary consented to be the mother of Jesus Christ, and that God became man.

“God began existing in a human nature – a human nature at the earliest stages of its development within Mary’s body” Father Pavone said. Threats to the unborn are increasing here in the United States and in many places around the globe. We are seeing radical pro-abortion bills being passed in Congress, and radical pro-abortion nominees being confirmed by the Democrat Party, the Party of Death and of unrestricted abortion. These Democrats are slapping God in the face with a big “NO” to life. By contrast, the Church and the pro-life movement say a big “YES” to life.”

Father Pavone pointed out that Evangelium Vitae, the encyclical published by St. John Paul II in 1995 that is the most comprehensive statement on the sanctity of life, was released on the Feast of the Annunciation, giving pro-lifers and all people of faith an opportunity every year to read the inspiring words and renew their commitment to finding an end to abortion.

He also noted that the feast is celebrated around the world as the Day of the Unborn Child. This has been officially established in many nations, in some cases by the Church and in other cases by the civil government. Elsewhere, the day is observed by individuals, families, and organizations.

“Tragically, legal child murder is spreading around the globe to places like Northern Ireland and Argentina, and efforts to legalize it are gaining ground in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Malawi, Thailand and elsewhere” Father Pavone said. “Once again, U.S. taxpayer dollars are flowing to abortion providers overseas. This must end.

“We need to spend the Day of the Unborn Child reading or re-reading the words of St. John Paul II. Then we have to go out in front of abortion mills, and into Congress and statehouses to fight to protect these vulnerable unborn children.”
