Fr. Pavone: Confirmation of federal judges is “good math for the side of life”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today congratulated Judge Barbara Lagoa on her confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

“Judge Lagoa was the first Cuban-American woman to serve on the Florida Supreme Court and the first Latina nominated by President Trump confirmed for the Court of Appeals,” he said. “When she is seated on the bench, the 11th Circuit will have a majority of judges appointed by Republican presidents. That’s good math for the side of life.”

Tomorrow, the Senate Judiciary Committee agenda includes votes on two nominees for the Ninth Circuit, Father Pavone noted.

“If these two well-qualified candidates – Patrick Bumatay and Lawrence VanDyke – are confirmed, the Ninth Circuit will be closer to parity than many of us thought possible, with 13 of the court’s 29 justices nominated by Republican presidents. President Trump, who has now seated more than 160 federal judges, continues to make good on his campaign promises as he transforms the federal judiciary.

“The appointments of these young, diverse judges will have a lasting impact on our nation as we seek to restore a culture of life.”
