TITUSVILLE, FL – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today thanked a Catholic priest in South Carolina for denying communion to Joe Biden over his support for abortion.
“I thank Father Robert Morey at St. Anthony Church in Florence for doing the right thing by denying communion to presidential hopeful Joe Biden,” Father Pavone said. “I hope more priests will follow his lead by refusing the sacrament to politicians who not only support abortion but who advocate for taxpayer funding for the murder of children.”
In September, Father Pavone penned an open letter to Biden (www.LetterToJoe.com), telling him – as he told Nancy Pelosi in the past – that “to fail to advocate for and advance the protection of children in the womb, when it is in your power to do so, is itself a contradiction of what it means to be Catholic,” and that this is distinct from the matter of what one “personally believes” about abortion.
Moreover, he has pointed out that being pro-abortion does not only contradict the Catholic faith, but also the meaning of being a Christian, a public servant, an American, and a civilized human being.
Father Pavone has also pointed out in an editorials in the Washington Examiner and Catholic Online that although Biden is often portrayed as a moderate, his abortion views are as extreme as the rest of the Democrats who are vying for the nomination.
“Catholics cannot vote for any of these candidates,” Father Pavone said. “It’s as simple as that.”
