The Meeting of Leo I and Attila is a fresco painted by Raphael in 1514. Legend has it that in the year 452, Attila the Hun was ransacking cities on his way to Rome. As he got to the outskirts of Rome, he was met by St. Leo the Great, who was Pope at the time.

Saints Peter and Paul accompanied St. Leo bearing swords. They are depicted at the top left of the painting, over St. Leo who is dressed in gold and is mounted on a white horse. Attila is on a brown horse in the center and he is seen holding his arms up to stop his soldiers as he views SS. Peter and Paul.  This painting now adorns the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

Today is the Feast Day of St. Leo the Great, so happy feast day!

Quote of the week

“When I shrink from suffering, Jesus reproves me and tells me that He did not refuse to suffer. Then I say ‘Jesus, Your will and not mine’. At last I am convinced that only God can make me happy, and in Him I have placed all my hope…”
St. Gemma Galgani
