Louisville, KY – The FDA’s quiet approval of a new generic version of the abortion drug mifepristone, produced by Evita Solutions LLC, is reckless, dangerous, and morally indefensible. Evita openly states its mission is to “normalize abortion” and promote so-called “compassionate abortion care.”
“There will never be anything normal about abortion, and there is nothing compassionate about ending the life of an unborn child,” said Addia K. Wuchner, Executive Director of Kentucky Right to Life.
“The FDA’s approval of a new generic abortion pill is not only an assault on the unborn, it is an assault on women’s health and further diminishes maternal care. The product’s own published risks and black box warnings are clear: this is not safe medication. To expand its use is reckless, dangerous, and morally indefensible.”
The FDA itself acknowledges that mifepristone carries a black box warning for life-threatening risks such as hemorrhage, infection, sepsis, and even death. Yet despite these dangers, the Biden Administration continues to weaken safeguards, now allowing abortion pills to be prescribed online, shipped by mail, and taken without medical supervision.
Abortion drugs now account for 63% of all U.S. abortions. Studies cited by the Foundation for the Restoration of America and the Ethics & Public Policy Center reveal that up to 11% of women experience severe complications such as hemorrhage and infection. Many women are also pressured into taking the pills by abusive partners or family members—an overlooked and devastating consequence of mail-order access.
For months National Right to Life, Kentucky Right to Life, and attorneys general from 16 states have repeatedly called for the FDA to reinstate commonsense safeguards and conduct a serious review of mifepristone’s dangers. Instead, the FDA has chosen to put politics before people, and ideology before life.
