Editor’s Note: The following is a guest post by Deanna Williston. As a Passionist myself who has a cross to bear, I think it’s an important topic for all.

Have you ever heard the expression “Offer it up” or “Unite your sufferings to the Cross”? What if these trite sayings aren’t wrong? Join me as I read through Pope Saint John Paul II’s Salvifici Doloris and learn how to “make up for what is lacking in the Body of Christ.” Seriously, this I my story, of how I learned that even a kernel of my suffering can be used for good, to save souls (including my own). If you watch my channel, you probably know I have health challenges and can’t go to some events because I need to go to the bathroom often and, because of that, I’m often malnourished and can’t handle heat and humidity—again, limiting where I can go and what I can do. Reading this encyclical opened up a whole new world for me, where my weaknesses are counted as strengths and beneficial for others. There’s hope in the Cross, join me there?

Quote of the week

“When I shrink from suffering, Jesus reproves me and tells me that He did not refuse to suffer. Then I say ‘Jesus, Your will and not mine’. At last I am convinced that only God can make me happy, and in Him I have placed all my hope…”
St. Gemma Galgani
