Upon reading Mark Lambert’s article on the British bishops ordering Christians not to use Christian symbols in a political protest, I have to wonder, will they be banning ashes on Ash Wednesday, too?

Bishops Against the Cross Catholic Unscripted:

When I sat down with GB News on Sunday to discuss The Times article about the Unite the Kingdom rally, I confess I felt some relief. No Catholic bishop, I thought, had been reckless enough to sign the open letter condemning the use of Christian symbols at that event. The signatories reported in The Times included Lord Williams of Oystermouth, a former Archbishop of Canterbury; the Right Rev Philip Mounstephen, Bishop of Winchester; Gavin Calver, chief executive of the Evangelical Alliance; and Bishop Mike Royal, general secretary of Churches Together in England. No Catholics mentioned. Phew.

Sadly, that relief was short-lived.

Read on at Catholic Unscripted.

We are all called on Ash Wednesday to display the cross openly on our foreheads as a witness to who we are. Shouldn’t we do it every day, regardless of where we find ourselves?

For heaven’s sake, the St. George’s Cross flag is inherently both Christian and political. What are these bishops thinking? My mind is blown. Don’t use this flag in a political protest? What has come over them?
