Celebrating 1,096 Days Since Roe v. Wade Was Overturned and 1,058 Days Since the Last Legal Abortion in Kentucky
Louisville, KY — Tuesday marks the third anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade after 50 years. The June 24, 2022, ruling returned the authority to regulate abortion to the states, and for Kentucky, it activated our pro-life Trigger Law, ending elective abortion in the Commonwealth.
Since that historic ruling:
– 1,096 days have passed since Roe was overturned
– 1,058 days have passed since the last legal abortion was performed in Kentucky on August 1, 2022
Following the Dobbs decision, Kentucky’s law was immediately challenged in court. We give heartfelt thanks to then-Attorney General Daniel Cameron, Solicitor General Matt Kuhn, and Deputy Attorney General Chad Meredith for their unwavering and successful defense of Kentucky’s pro-life laws. Their efforts ensured that Kentucky stood strong against legal opposition and upheld the sanctity of life.
“The Dobbs decision forever changed the legal and moral landscape of our nation,” said Addia Wuchner, Executive Director of Kentucky Right to Life. “In Kentucky, that decision activated our Trigger Law and brought an end to the tragic era of legal abortion in our Commonwealth.”
“We are grateful to the U.S. Supreme Court, to the courageous leadership of our lawmakers, to former Attorney General Daniel Cameron and his legal team—and especially thankful for all the faithful and prayerful pro-life Kentuckians who never gave up.”
“Today, we not only remember—we recommit ourselves to building a culture of life where every child is welcomed and every mother is supported.”
Kentucky Right to Life celebrates this third anniversary with deep gratitude and renewed determination. As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our mission to protect life through education, outreach, and advocacy—standing for the unborn and supporting pregnant women and families across the Commonwealth.
