One year ago this week, the United States Supreme Court finally corrected its misinterpretation of the Constitution in Roe v. Wade and subsequent cases that erroneously declared a so-called “right to abortion” just short of its fiftieth anniversary. The 6-3 ruling of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, issued on June 24, 2022, made clear that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. It overruled Roe and Casey and returned the authority to regulate abortion to the people and their elected representatives. This is a victory for life and for the American people whose voices can now be heard.
Eagle Forum President Kris Ullman said, “Today we celebrate the reversal of Roe v. Wade after nearly half a century of babies being lost to the atrocity of abortion. We applaud all those who worked tirelessly for 50 years to change hearts and minds in favor of Life. Eagle Forum members have marched, prayed, provided help to pregnant women and pregnancy centers as well as lobbied local, state, and federal officials in support of life. These efforts have not ceased since the Dobbs decisions but are more important than ever. The fate of women and their preborn babies is no longer in the hands of nine Supreme Court Justices. The voice of the people is now respected. It is our responsibility to continue advocating for life in every community and reaching out with love and compassion to every pregnant woman.”
Currently, twenty-four states have instituted pro-life laws protecting preborn babies ranging from when the heartbeat is first detected up to fifteen weeks gestation which is when babies begin to feel pain in the womb. These laws are saving hundreds of thousands of babies each year and preserving future generations.
Eagle Forum is dedicated to championing pro-life laws at state and federal levels, supporting legislation prohibiting chemical abortion drugs, and advocating for pregnancy resource centers that provide care for women and children.
