TITUSVILLE, FL — “President Trump’s promise to remake the federal judiciary took another step forward today,” Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said this afternoon, following a procedural vote in the U.S. Senate that advanced the nomination of Judge Peter Phipps, 46, for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

The Republican majority in the Senate is expected to confirm the nominee in a floor vote tomorrow.

“Times have changed,” Father Pavone said. “Democrats now have to vote against even the most qualified nominees because they are committed to blocking President Trump at every step. That’s another reason why the Republican majority in the Senate is so vital.”

The Third Circuit last week blocked Trump administration rules that would allow employers to deny workers insurance coverage for birth control due to religious or moral objections.

“Though this does not impact the Priests for Life victory over the unjust contraception mandate contained in the Affordable Care Act, the Third Circuit decision was clearly wrong,” Father Pavone said. “Another Trump nominee on the court will go a long way toward ensuring better decisions in the future.”

Quote of the week

“When I shrink from suffering, Jesus reproves me and tells me that He did not refuse to suffer. Then I say ‘Jesus, Your will and not mine’. At last I am convinced that only God can make me happy, and in Him I have placed all my hope…”
St. Gemma Galgani
