From Aid to the Church in Need:
Father Esteban Galvis is parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ureña, Venezuela, on the border with Colombia. He is a man of God trying desperately to help the lost, frightened and vulnerable who are coming to him seeking aid and comfort.
“Many people arrive here weeping with serious problems, anxious or saddened because they are leaving their country, because they have nothing to eat, or can’t get medicine.”
Each day, the Church in this devastated country feeds between 5,000 and 8,000 people. Finding food, if it can be found at all, is a time-consuming process, so parishes prepare “community stews” each day to ensure that the hungry have something to eat. The Church continues to share what little they have with their faithful. But what they have will soon run out.
Father Esteban tells us, “We continue to help, but with the very barest minimum, and with particular emphasis on the elderly and children, since we don’t have enough for everyone.”
